Portland, Oregon and the surrounding areas have many sightseeing and local cultural attractions. You can coordinate and schedule your own sightseeing excursions while you’re in Portland or participate in optional activities provided by ISA.

Conference Location

The ISA Conference and Trade Show will be held in the city of Portland, Oregon (USA) at the Oregon Convention Center. Located 47.9 miles (77.1 km) northeast of the state capital of Salem, Portland is considered to be the main hub of commerce and employment for the state. Centrally located, Portland is easily accessible by road, air, and rail with 8.9 million people coming into the City’s Metro District during 2010.

Access to Portland

Located just 9 miles north of downtown sits the Portland International Airport which has been ranked as the best airport in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler readers. The Portland International Airport is noted for being the largest airport in Oregon and accounts for 90% of the state’s passenger travel and over 95% of transportation of air cargo. Along with transportation, comfort is also a main priority within this airport as they offer free wireless internet access, places to shop and dine, passenger and terminal concourses, and other amenities.

The Portland International Airport connects Portland with direct flights to numerous major U.S. cities and international destinations in Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and The Netherlands. Flights are also offered to smaller cities within Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, California, and Nevada.

Travel to and from Portland International Airport

  • MAX Light Rail*- The MAX light rail is documented as being the easiest way to get from the Portland International Airport to your desired location. This 38 minute ride to downtown Portland provides you with an affordable way to sight see on your way into the city. Cost is just $2.35 for an adult one-way all zone ticket. The MAX light rail also offers a free rail zone which allows travelers to ride for free within the designated 330 block area. The Oregon Convention Center, Lloyd Center, and downtown Portland are all within the city’s free rail zone. See the map of the free rail zone for other locations included in the zone.
  • Taxi cabs-Taxi’s are also available forms of transportation from the Portland International Airport. This 20-30 minute trip to downtown Portland will cost approximately $35 before gratuity. Travel Portland recommends using the company Radio Cab for your taxi service needs. Specials can be found on their website.
  • Shuttles-Downtown Airport Express will be running shuttles from the Portland International Airport to hotels within the downtown Portland, Lloyd Center, and Oregon Convention Center areas. These shuttles will run approximately every 30 minutes and will cost $14 for a one way trip.
  • TriMet Bus*-The TriMet Bus is another resource that visitors in Portland can utilize to travel around the city. Bus line 6 runs on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and offers a stop at the Oregon Convention Center (Intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and NE Holladay St). This line also offers drop-offs at the Portland City Center. During the weekdays buses run approximately every 15 minutes. If using the bus on the weekends be sure to check and make sure the line you wish to use offers service during the weekend hours. An adult all zone 2 hour ticket can be purchased as you enter the bus for $2.40. Please be sure to have correct amount ready as the bus driver will not be able to make change for the purchase of a ticket.
  • Street Car*-If traveling in the Pearl District, Portland State, Northwest Portland, or Downtown Portland areas the street car may be an excellent form of transportation. Streetcars run approximately every 13-20 minutes on weekdays and 15-20 minutes on weekends costing only $2.05 for an adult zone 1 and 2 all day pass. No cost is required to ride the street car in the Free Rail Zone. Tickets can be purchased online or on-board the street car in the designated fare boxes.
